It is time to audit your "Social Supply Chain." Think of a specific person you hang out with. Run them through the algorithm below.
Asset vs. Liability
In accounting, an Asset puts money in your pocket. A Liability takes money out. In social dynamics, the currency is not money; it is Bio-Energy.
If you have a friend who constantly complains, plays the victim, and ridicules your goals, they are an "Energy Liability." If you feel guilty cutting them off, you are suffering from the Sunk Cost Fallacy.

Is this approach too ruthless?
No. It is essentialist. You have limited time on this planet (see Memento Mori). Spending it with people who drain you is a disrespect to your own potential.
What if the "Vampire" is family?
You cannot "fire" family, but you can limit exposure. Treat them like "Radioactive Material." Small doses are fine; prolonged exposure is fatal.
